Stainless Steel Plate Processing at Penn Stainless

Customers can select a number of processing options to produce stainless steel plates to their exact specifications, reducing materiel costs, production time, scrap and internal handling. All stainless steel grades of plate can be cut. We regularly process stainless steel shapes, stainless steel rings, and stainless steel discs. Dynamic waterjet cutting and laser cutting offer ultra precise tolerances for processed stainless steel plate.

2 Plasma Cutting Tables

4 Kasto Plate Saws

3 Plate Shears

Gauer Processing

Machine Cutting

Stainless steel rings and discs can be machine cut from 1/2″ thick thru 12″ thick, up to 42″ in diameter. While rings or discs can be waterjet cut, machine cutting stainless steel plate offers price advantages while still providing a clean machine-ready finish similar to waterjet cutting. In house plate leveling of coil from 13 gauge stainless sheet thru 3/8″ stainless plate coil, thru 78.75″ wide (2 meter). Stainless Steel Plate Polishing

Penn Stainless can polish nearly any stainless steel plate item to a #4 polish, #6 Polish, #7 polish or a #8 mirror finish. Stainless plates can be polished on one side or two sides. Stainless steel polished plates can also be cut to size. Pitt free surfaces can also be provided.

Heatreating & Annealing

Some grades of stainless steel plates can be heatreated to change the mechanical properties. Precipitation Hardening Stainless Steels such as 17-4PH can be heatreated. 410 stainless steel plate can also be heatreated. Flatness Tolerances of Plate Mill Plate:

  • Tolerance in this table apply to any length, not necessarily the rolling direction, up to 36 in. (914 mm) of the longer lengths in the plane of the plate measured while the plate rests on a flat surface with the concavity of the curvature upward.
  • If the longer dimensions are under 36 in. (914 mm), the tolerance is not greater then 1/4 in. (6.4mm).
  • For plates with specified minimum yield strengths of 35 ski (240 MPa) or more, the permitted variations are increased to 1 1/2 times the amounts shown.
