Stainless Steel Specification – ASTM A312


ASTM A312 discusses  standard specification for seamless, straight-seam welded, and cold worked welded austenitic stainless steel pipe made for high-temperature and general corrosive service. Grades of steel must have the correct chemical composition for carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, titanium, columbium, tantalum, nitrogen, vanadium, copper, cerium, boron, aluminum, and others elements. All pipes must be furnished in the heat-treated condition with the specified temperature temperature and cooling/testing requirements. Tensile properties of the material must have the prescribed tensile strength and yield strength.  Each pipe must also undergo a nondestructive electric test or a hydrostatic test, a weld decay test, a grain size determination test., a transverse or longitudinal test, and a flattening test.
